(BEWARE... BE AWARE)... STORES ARE CHARGING YOU FOR PAYING BY CREDIT CARD
A new rule went into effect Sunday that could cost you more when you shop with a credit card.
Visa and Mastercard have agreed to let merchants add a service charge to their customers that is equal to the cost of processing a credit transaction.
The cost of processing is usually 1.5 to 3 percent, and merchants are capped at a 4 percent fee.
The rule change was made as part of an anti-trust settlement brought by retailers.
By the way, the rule does NOT apply to debit card transactions.
