DANICA PATRICK MAKES HISTORY: THE FIRST WOMAN TO WIN DAYTONA 500 POLE

Danica Patrick became the first woman to win the pole position for the Daytona 500 on Sunday when she posted a lap of 196.434 miles per hour. 

The win guarantees Patrick a spot in Sunday's race which she will now start on the inside of the front row. 

(The previous best starting position for a female in the Daytona 500 was 18th by Janet Guthrie.)

 

Jeff Gordon came in second with a lap of 196.292 and sits on the outside of the front row.
